Job Submission
We will work with you to design your job, or you can submit files for production.
A printout of the job, as well as a file are useful when submitting a job for print. PDF x1a is the preffered format format for file submission. Pricing consideration can be made for files that are PDF x1a compliant, and certified. Care must be taken to assure that fonts are embedded, and that images are at 300 dpi at their intended output size.
PDF compliance can be checked with Adobe Acrobat, as well as many other software packages. Modern Printing will also accept files prepared in Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Each of these programs has it's own strengths, it is up to the designer to determine their preffered tool.

Files submitted in Quark should be packaged using the Quark “collect for output routine. This assures that fonts, and links, as well as specialized color profiles are included. Production delays will result if the package is not complete.
Files submitted in InDesign should be “packaged”. This is a similar routine to the Quark routine, and also saves fonts and images. Production delays will result if the package is not complete.
Illustrator files need to be submitted with the links and fonts manually added to the job folder, if the Modern Printing staff is going to need to manipulate the file in any way. Alternatively, all fonts can be converted to outlines, but the file is no longer editable. Additionally, the file can be converted to a PDF file in the “save as” column. Care must be taken to allow for all required bleed and trim. Production delays will result if the package is not complete.
Photoshop files will need to have fonts manually coppied to the job file, or should be saved as a PDF file in the “save as” column. Care should be taken to allow for all required bleed and trim. Production delays will result if the package is not complete.
We are also able to take files designed in Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel. All of these options require a hard copy, and you are asked to read your proof very carefully, as text reflow is a near certainty.
Estimates
We will be happy to provide estimates as needed. The accuracy of the estimate is entirely dependant on the quality of the information used to produce the estimate.
With this in mind, please have the number of colors, (black counts as a color), paper stock, size, type of file you intend to submit, and the quantiy you will require. We will endeavor to be as accurate as possible
